About the 6th Penny: The 6th Penny is a one-cent per dollar county-wide sales tax that is approved by voters in an election. The tax covers specific purposes/projects. Once the sales tax has collected the amounts authorized for those projects, it expires. Local elected officials may then create a new slate of projects for consideration by voters.
